"Opportunities and Challenges of OLED & QLED" Dr. Xiaolin Yan

• Biography

Dr. Yan joined TCL Corporation in 2001. He was vice general manager of TCL multimedia R&D center and director of flat panel display TV R&D center for FPD TV development. Currentlyhe is theChief Technology Officer and the Senior Vice President of TCL Corporation, thePresident of TCL Corporate Research.

Dr. Yangraduated from the Institute of Plasma Physics of Chinese Academy of Science with a Doctoral Degree in July 1999. From July 1999 to May 2001, he worked as a post-doctoral fellow in the Chinese Academy of Science.

Dr. Yan is the leader of the expert group of the New Display Key Project of national five-year plan(2010-2015) of the Ministry of Science and Technology of the PRC, the expert of compilation group for national key project on strategicelectronicsoffive-year plan(2016-2021), the expert member of compilation group for National "New materials research and engineering Key project " plan, a Committee Member of the Electrical Technology Committee of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of the PRC, the Asia Regional Vice President of the Society of Information Display (SID), a Director of the Display Technology Committee of the Chinese Vacuum Society, a President of the Engineering Laboratory of Digital Home of the PRC, an Executive President of the Engineering Technology Research Centre of Digital Family Life of the PRC and the Chairman of the China 3D Industry Association.

In addition, Dr. Yan completed 12 national projects as a person-in-charge, formulated one set of International Electrotechnical Commission international standard and two sets of national standard as a group leader, as well as registered 32 patents of his inventions as the chief inventor, two of which were awarded the Gold Award and Outstanding Award of the PRC National Patent Award respectively. The Gold Award also was recognized by WIPO(World Intellectual Property Organization) and had definite influence internationally.

"Thirty and More Years of OLED Research – a Retrospective" Prof. Ching W. Tang

• Biography

Ching W. Tang obtained his B.S. (chemistry) from the University of British Columbia in 1970 and PhD from Cornell University in 1975. He joined the University of Rochester in 2006 as the Doris John Cherry Professor of Chemical Engineering after spending 31 years as a research scientist with the Eastman Kodak Company. In 2013 he was appointed the Bank of East Asia Professor of the Jockey Club Institute for Advanced Study, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.

Tang’s research interest centers on developing high-efficiency optoelectronic devices based on organic semiconductors. He is best known for the invention (during his tenure at Kodak Research Laboratories) of bi-layer organic light emitting diodes (OLED) and organic photovoltaic cells based on a donor-acceptor heterojunction structure, which laid the foundation for today’s organic electronic devices. Tang was elected a fellow of the American Physical Society, a fellow of the Society for Information Display, a member of the U.S. National Academy of Engineering, a member of the Academy of Sciences of Hong Kong, and a fellow of the Hong Kong Academy of Engineering Sciences. His notable awards include the 2011 Wolf Prize in Chemistry, and most recently the 2017 Jun-ichiNishizawa Medal from IEEE.
